Following the successful installation of the new South Tyson Avenue LIRR Bridge in Floral Park, new ADA-compliant elevators are being installed at the Floral Park LIRR Station as part of the LIRR Expansion Project Floral Park to Hicksville. Relocation of utilities is underway, with the installation of the North, Central and South Elevators scheduled to begin before year-end.
When all three elevators are completed in the summer of 2020, travel by railroad will become easier for the nearly 16,000 residents of Floral Park.
Floral Park Station was built in 1878 and converted to an elevated station in 1960. This station services both the Main Line and the Hempstead Branch and serves nearly 3,000 customers each weekday.
The LIRR Expansion Project is part of a multibillion-dollar modernization of the Long Island Rail Road, the largest investment the railroad has received in decades. Once the work is complete, scheduled for 2022, the LIRR will have increased its capacity by roughly 50 percent. Together, the upgrades will help transform transportation across the region and provide a reliable, state-of-the-art rail system for Long Islanders.
