The LIRR Expansion Project team joined the Town of North Hempstead in celebrating National Night Out at Bunky Reid Park in New Cassel on August 6th. Community Ambassador to New Cassel Seth Sylvan and Deputy Public Outreach Manager Dan Marcy, engaged with local community members and individuals interested in the project throughout the evening. Seth and Dan distributed project information and discussed ongoing construction activities in New Cassel, including the significant progress made at the Urban Avenue grade crossing. Seth and Dan also discussed some of the many exciting project programs occurring as part of the project, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiatives being implemented in coordination with local school districts.
National Night Out is a nationwide organization committed to fostering positive relationships between communities and law enforcement officials and to promoting neighborhood camaraderie and safe places to live.
The LIRR Expansion Project is part of a multibillion-dollar modernization of the Long Island Rail Road, the largest investment the railroad has received in decades. Once the work is complete, the LIRR will have increased its capacity by roughly 50 percent. Together, the upgrades will help transform transportation across the region and provide a reliable, state-of-the-art rail system for Long Islanders.
