The LIRR Expansion Project team continues its robust coordination efforts with school districts throughout the project corridor. The team recently met with the Superintendent of Carle Place School District, Dr. Christine Finn, and the Director of Transportation, Kevin Coffey, to discuss ongoing construction work in Carle Place, including the successful completion of the Cherry Lane Bridge Replacement Project, ongoing Carle Place Station improvements, and the construction of sound attenuation walls in the neighborhood.
The Expansion project team and Dr. Finn also discussed partnership opportunities pertaining to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiatives related to the ongoing construction.
The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including the construction of parking garages, retaining walls, improvements to rail bridges and the removal of eight street-level grade crossings. Construction is being managed to minimize the impact on daily routines, with extensive mitigation and public outreach efforts in local communities.
