LIRR Expansion Project Team Provides Update at Westbury Public Meeting

Westbury meeting 03-14-19

On March 14th the LIRR Expansion Project team presented a project update to the residents of Westbury at a public meeting. The team discussed current and upcoming construction activities, specifically highlighting the approaching construction start date for the Westbury North Parking Garage – during construction, the project team will provide replacement parking and shuttle service for commuters affected by the construction. The project team also presented the latest plans and renderings for the North Parking Garage and the enhanced Westbury Station.

Residents and commuters along the Main Line corridor have long sought a mass transit solution to reduce road congestion, improve safety and provide an appealing alternative to driving – all with minimal disruption to existing train services and without residential property takings. The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including the construction of up to five parking garages, retaining walls, improvements to rail bridges and the removal of seven street-level railroad crossings.

Construction in Mineola and elsewhere is being handled in a way that minimizes the impact on daily routines, with extensive mitigation and ongoing public outreach to all communities along the Expansion Project, including regular presentations to local officials and organizations to keep them up to date regarding construction progress.
