Nassau Blvd Bridge 01-10-19A bridge strike to the Nassau Boulevard Bridge in the Village of Garden City on January 9th caused delays for both drivers travelling underneath the bridge and for LIRR passengers. Bridge strikes result in train delays, as LIRR crews determine the bridge’s safety and structural integrity before restoring service.

Since the vertical clearance of the Nassau Boulevard Bridge is below 14 feet, it is vulnerable to bridge strikes; as part of the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville, however, this bridge will be replaced to increase its vertical clearance and reduce the risk of bridge strikes. Replacement of the Nassau Boulevard Bridge will result in a more reliable and safe commute for both LIRR passengers and those passing beneath the bridge.
