Dear Friend,

Greetings from the LIRR Expansion Project.

Earlier this year, we issued the project’s Draft Scoping Document, whose main purpose is to identify and list what issues would be studied during the project’s environmental review. Many of you gave your suggestions about this document during a public comment period that included six public hearings and numerous other ways to contact us electronically and in person. Based on the public’s comments, we’ve revised what aspects and effects of the project are being studied, and noted the changes in the project’s Final Scoping Document, which you can download here at the project’s website, www.aModernLI.com.

An even more significant stage of the project’s planning and public comment opportunity is yet to come. The results of the painstaking impact studies underway right now will be published later this year, in a detailed report called a Draft Environmental Impact Statement. This report will contain extensive, detailed information about the potential significant effects of the project, and a robust public outreach and comment period will follow to allow people the opportunity to ask questions and make comments about our initial findings.ROW Page

The LIRR Expansion Project is a brand new initiative that’s totally different from previous attempts to add capacity to the busy Main Line, as Governor Andrew Cuomo noted in an announcement this week about his comprehensive, integrated efforts to upgrade the entire LIRR system.

Most significantly, this project will require NO residential property takings in order to add a third track and modify the seven grade crossings on the Main Line between Hicksville and Floral Park.

At www.aModernLI.com, you can download maps of the LIRR’s property lines along the project corridor. These maps are the result of work that’s been done this summer for the ongoing environmental review.

Over the next few months, we will be continuing the extensive testing, analysis and study that are part of the project’s environmental review process, as well as our unprecedented community outreach in the form of meetings with local officials and residents. In the meantime, feel free to email us at info@aModernLI.com, call us at (516) 253-5239 or visit our Project Information Center at the Mineola Station south platform (hours here). You can also follow us on Twitter at @aModernLI.

We look forward to hearing from you.
