Field Engineer Greg Kelty of 3rd Track Constructors, the project Design-Build contractor, has procured samples of sound and retaining walls for the LIRR Expansion Project. The LIRR Expansion Project includes the installation of several types of retaining and sound attenuation walls along the corridor to reduce impacts to adjacent properties and minimize the need for property acquisition – they also support the placement of track in rail segments below grade.

Sound attenuation walls will be erected throughout residential areas to reduce noise levels and protect quality of life standards. Community input was solicited regarding the architectural finishes to ensure aesthetic compatibility with each neighborhood.
