On Thursday, March 7, 3TC Community Ambassador to Floral Park, Judy White, helped organize an LIRR Expansion Project presentation to the Floral Park-Bellerose School District (FPBSD) Board of Education. The project team discussed current and upcoming construction activities in Floral Park, traffic detour plans for Covert Avenue, and the project’s ongoing unique STEM competition. The project team has been coordinating closely with FPBSD Superintendent and the Village of Floral Park regarding project elements near the John Lewis Childs School, such as South Tyson Avenue Bridge. 3rd Track Constructors (3TC) is the design-build contractor responsible for completing the design and construction of the LIRR Expansion Project.
Residents and commuters along the Main Line corridor have long sought a mass transit solution to reduce road congestion, improve safety and provide an appealing alternative to driving – all with minimal disruption to existing train services and without residential property takings.
The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including the construction of up to five parking garages, retaining walls, improvements to rail bridges and the removal of seven street-level railroad crossings.
Construction in Floral Park and elsewhere is being handled in a way that minimizes the impact on daily routines, with extensive mitigation and ongoing public outreach to all communities along the Expansion Project, including regular presentations to local officials and organizations to keep them up to date regarding construction progress.
