Installation of New Platforms Underway at Merillon Avenue Station

Merillon Avenue Station 06-19-19

Following the successful removal of the western halves of the platforms at Merillon Avenue Station, work to install new platforms continues. The new platforms at Merillon Avenue Station will accommodate 12-car trains: these platforms are being reconstructed utilizing 120 individual 8’ x 16’ precast concrete panels, weighting approximately 19,000 lbs., all manufactured off site. Concrete piers are being poured to establish the proper elevation for each new platform. All work requiring track time is performed under LIRR operating outages on nights, weekends or during off-peak hours to minimize service impacts.

Merillon Avenue is one of five stations being rebuilt as part of the LIRR Expansion Project Floral Park to Hicksville. All these stations will be ADA-accessible and include new station platforms and furnishings, security cameras, free public Wi-Fi, USB charging stations and digital information displays.
