Design-Build Contractor 3rd Track Constructors (3TC) and the LIRR Expansion Project are committed to providing contract opportunities for local businesses throughout the duration of construction, and on September 12th the LIRR Expansion Project Team attended the Ascend Long Island Procurement Conference.
The event featured presentations from the Ascend Long Island 2019 cohort and networking opportunities for participants with major Long Island employers, including the LIRR. William Miller, 3TC M/WBE (Minority-Owned/Women-Owned Business Enterprises) and SDVOB (Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Business) Coordinator, and Margo Cargill, 3TC Ambassador to Carle Place and Westbury, spoke with attendees about the LIRR Expansion Project.
Ascend Long Island is a partnership among Hofstra University’s National Center for Suburban Studies, Center for Entrepreneurship and the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center and BOC Capital, a Community Development Finance Institution. The program’s mission is to provide emerging small businesses in underserved communities with access to procurement opportunities and resources to access capital and markets.
The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including the construction of parking garages, retaining walls, improvements to rail bridges and the removal of eight street-level grade crossings. Construction is being managed to minimize the impact on daily routines, with extensive mitigation and public outreach efforts in local communities.
