Since the approval of the third track project last year, MTA officials have wasted no time in rolling out plans across the 9.8-mile stretch from Floral Park to Hicksville.
The Merillon Avenue substation, located at Atlantic Avenue and Hilton Avenue in the Town of North Hempstead, will be replaced as part of the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville. This substation is approximately 40 years old and nearing the end of its operational life. The Merillon Avenue substation replacement is necessary to accommodate the additional third track and support future growth of the LIRR. The Merillon Avenue substation replacement is part of a larger initiative to enhance service reliability and support system expansion throughout the LIRR and ultimately support the growth and development of Long Island.
