On April 10th, members of the Suffolk County Economic Development team joined the LIRR Expansion Project team at the Community Information Center in Mineola to discuss ongoing progress. The team presented a project overview and showcased the latest construction milestones at the South Tyson Avenue Bridge modification, the Covert Avenue Grade Crossing elimination, the Mineola Harrison Avenue Parking Structure, the Carle Place Station enhancement project and the Urban Avenue Grade Crossing elimination. The two groups discussed best practices for effective community engagement.
The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including the construction of up to five parking garages, retaining walls, improvements to rail bridges and the removal of seven street-level grade crossings.
