On July 18th, New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages joined LIRR Senior Director, External Affairs Hector Garcia at the LIRR Expansion Project Community Information Center to discuss ongoing construction progress. Assemblywoman Solages viewed the exhibits on display, which tell a history and background of this historic megaproject, and took a site tour of some of the project elements under construction.
Assemblywoman Solages, a third- term legislator, is a lifelong resident of Elmont. She represents the communities of Elmont, North Valley Stream, Valley Stream, South Valley Stream, South Floral Park, Floral Park, the Village of Bellerose, Bellerose Terrace, North Woodmere, Stewart Manor and sections of Franklin Square. Constituents in her district, many of whom are LIRR customers, will benefit greatly from this effort, whether they use the railroad for daily commuting or leisure activities. We thank the Assemblywoman for her interest and support in this project.
Residents and commuters along the Main Line corridor have long sought a mass transit solution to reduce road congestion, improve safety and provide an appealing alternative to driving – all with minimal disruption to existing train services and without residential property takings.
The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including the construction of parking garages, retaining walls, improvements to rail bridges and the removal of eight street-level grade crossings.
Construction is being managed to minimize the impact on daily routines, with extensive mitigation and public outreach efforts in local communities. For more information, please visit the LIRR Expansion Project Floral Park to Hicksville on AModernLI.com – http://www.amodernli.com/project/thirdtrack/.
