Since the approval of the third track project last year, MTA officials have wasted no time in rolling out plans across the 9.8-mile stretch from Floral Park to Hicksville.
The Westbury substation, located southeast of Union Avenue and Sullivan Street north of the LIRR, will be replaced as part of the LIRR Expansion Project from Floral Park to Hicksville. This substation is approximately 40 years old and nearing the end of its operational life. It is imperative that the Westbury substation is replaced in order to accommodate the additional third track and support future growth of the LIRR. Westbury substation replacement is part of a larger initiative to enhance service reliability and support system expansion throughout the LIRR and ultimately support the growth and development of Long Island.
